Walking holidays in the Lake District

The Lake District - one of the most unique and breath-taking places in the entire United Kingdom is a mecca for walkers, hikers and climbers from around the globe, and rightly so! There’s nowhere else quite like it. William Wordsworth himself, a resident in the area for much of his life, called it: ‘the loveliest spot that man hath ever found’. It’s nature in full flourish, teeming with wildlife, and countryside as green and as lush as the freshest spring grass. It has everything: dramatic valleys, gushing streams and rivers, majestic mountains and the most gorgeous expanses of open water. Adjacent to the area, although not strictly within the Lake District, is the historic Hadrian’s Wall, Europe’s largest surviving Roman monument along which we offer a remarkable walking holiday.

The sheer variety and number of walks on offer in the Lake District is mind-boggling offering something for everyone. From low-level walks full of literary and historical points of interest, to challenging high-level ascents for the more energetic and ambitious hiker. Here at The Carter Company, we’re proud to differentiate ourselves by offering walks that allow you to get off the beaten track a little bit and away from the very busy, tourist-heavy routes. We’ve scoured the region with a fine comb to locate the finest luxury boutique hotels, offering excellent service, stunning food and rooms with oodles of local character.
