Cycling holidays in The Cotswolds

Our Cotswolds Tours

Taking a cycling holiday in The Cotswolds is the best way to see this most quintessential English area. The majority of the riding is along quiet country lanes (bike paths are few and far between), which wind their way through honey-coloured villages, over rivers and streams, and past valleys and hills with stunning views. 'Wolds' means 'hills' - so be prepared for the occasional slope, although we have carefully crafted our routes to minimise any steep gradients, so you can focus on enjoying the view and soaking up the atmosphere and culture of the area.

In terms of local highlights, there's world-famous gardens, fantastic organic food shops and Michelin-starred restaurants, cosy classic English pubs serving locally brewed ales, palaces, stately homes, museums, theatres, Roman history, local specialist architecture and more - see below for a selection of our top picks.

Guided or Self-guided Tours

We offer a range of gentle (20 miles/day) and not-so-gentle (30 miles/day) biking trips in The Cotswolds, from weekend short breaks to adventures lasting a fortnight or more. Most holidays are self-guided but we do also offer guided tours. All accommodation on tours with overnight stays is hand picked on the basis of excellent service, location and character; you can choose between luxury hotels or classic quality inns. Our Really Rather Special Tour includes stays in the very best luxury hotels in the region.

Routes

Most itineraries begin in Oxford or Kingham, and head north towards Stratford and/or south towards Bath, which gives you the opportunity to take in the likes of Chipping Campden, Stow-on-the-Wold, Burford, Cirencester and Tetbury.

The Carter Company's routes are carefully designed by local experts who know the area inside-out, so you can expect to discover both the highlights and the hidden gems of The Cotswolds, which most tourists never lay their eyes on! Along with your route directions (or guide), you will also receive a Carter Company Adventure Handbook, which is packed full of insider tips, stories about the history of the area and other interesting nuggets of information that give you the opportunity to really get to know this beautiful part of England.
