Cycling holidays in Portugal

Portugal lacks little when it comes to historical interest, old traditions and sun. We have chosen the Alentejo region as one of the best gentler areas for a cycling holiday in Portugal. The joy of Portugal for cyclists lies in the many back lanes and tracks, the glorious food and wine, the architectural details, centuries old traditions and the many individual stylish hotels and accommodations set in historic and charming towns and villages. It is wonderfully rural with many areas protected for their unique habitats.

The Alentejo is an unpoilt rural area of small walled villages with medieval cores and Roman ruins watched over by innumerable ancient castles. It’s Portugal’s agricultural heartland, the rolling countryside is planted with cork forests, olive groves and vineyards. These abound with plenty of local wines for you to sample. Marble, pottery and tapestry are alive and white washed villages set the scene with small markets, old quarters and ancient churches adding colour. The landscape isn’t flat but neither is it too hilly for you to enjoy a fascinating cycling holiday.
