Cycling holidays in Sussex
An immensely beautiful but lesser-known corner of southern England, Sussex offers an array of delights spanning the undulating green-and-white chalk hills of the South Downs to the charming High Weald rolling landscape in the east. It wasn’t our natural starting point for cycling holidays due to its hills but the advent of E-bikes has changed the landscape and we are thrilled to be able to offer trips in this lovely area.
Throughout, Sussex is dotted with ample castles and boasts a plethora of wonderful gardens. Its a land of picturesque villages and ancient small woods, ever multiplying vineyards and more sunshine than anywhere else in the U.K. There’s historical nudges at every turn in its castles, battlefields and architecture and its medieval towns like Rye We love its array of varied and characterful hotels and old inns but most of all we love its sheer beauty.
The High Weald straddles east Sussex and Kent where our cycling tour combines visits to the many top gardens and castles of the area. With luxury and classic characterful stays including Hever Castle, we think this is a magical experience.

Woods
The many small scattered woods are remnants of a once vast forest that was cleared piecemeal by small farmers over time. Some of the oldest trees in Europe are here.

Battle
A pretty town where William the Conqueror changed the course of English history in 1066. The abbey marks the spot!

Great Dixter Gardens
A must see romantic and highly innovative garden with a medieval house. One of a number of tip top gardens in the area.

Rye
Stuffed with medieval buildings Rye was once a smugglers haunt and Cinque port but is now several miles from the sea

Bateman's
Rudyard Kipling nurtered a wonderful family home & romantic garden. They remain true to how things were when he wrote the poem ‘If’ there.

Hastings
This seaside town has a shingle beach and pier, contemporary art gallery, characterful Old Town and a Fishermen’s and Shipwreck museums.
