Walking holidays in Northumberland

Be it inland - think Hadrian’s Wall or on the coast, England’s most northerly county is nothing short of grand. It’s blest with panoramic vistas sometimes across a rugged landscape, vast and beautiful sandy beaches and dunes, mega construction projects such as the Romans’ boundary wall and huge castles or fortresses.

Distances can be big too but with the focus our walking holidays have - on the wall or the coast, days can be divided into a sensible number of miles. We can also tailor your walking trip to sit with your pace. Being 97% rural, Northumberland has a low population density and is known for its tranquillity, unspoilt villages and untouched landscapes. As such, it offers a nice contrast with the vibrancy of Edinburgh which is within easy reach, just across the border in Scotland. But here in Northumberland, locals are fiercely loyal and proud of their county, always friendly and ready to share their local highlights.

Both our two walking holidays in Northumberland exude history, largely due to its ‘border’ position- be it Roman along emporer Hadrian’s Wall or Viking and Christian along the Coast and islands. But the two are very different in nature and combine well.
