Cycling holidays in The Cotswolds

Taking a cycling holiday in The Cotswolds is the best way to see this most quintessential English area which runs for 100 miles from the north east near Chipping Campden to the south west in Bath. Designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this is one of our most popular holiday regions with Oxford or Kingham the usual starting locations.

The majority of the riding is along quiet country lanes (bike paths are few and far between), which wind their way through honey-coloured villages, over rivers and streams, and through valleys and hills with stunning views and sheep clad pastures. ‘Wolds’ means ‘hills’ - so be prepared for some slopes, although we have carefully crafted our routes to minimise any steep gradients, so you can focus on enjoying the view and soaking up the atmosphere and culture of the area.

History is in abundance from the very early colleges in Oxford to Roman roads, early water-powered woollen mills and Georgian mansions. Enjoy palaces, stately homes, museums and theatres and discover numerous hidden gems from gardens and farm shops to vineyards and waterways as well as better known stars such as Stow on Wold, Burford and Tetbury There are brilliant village inns serving locally brewed ales and some outstanding hotels and Michelin starred restaurants. Along with your gps routes (or guide), you will also receive a Carter Company Adventure Handbook, which is packed full of insider tips, stories about the history of the area and other interesting nuggets of information that give you the opportunity to really get to know this beautiful part of England.
