Our Devon & Cornwall cycling holidays
Our cycling holidays in Devon & Cornwall are an exciting way of getting to know this rural part of Britain. The area is a popular holiday destination among the English due to its warm sunny weather, rolling landscapes and interesting northern and southern coastlines. Devon does have some hills whilst Cornwall has steep hills; however a number of our cycle routes follow old railway lines which means the gradients are fairly gentle and we include E bikes as standard on our most demanding trips. Travelling by bike in this region allows you to get your teeth into authentic English countryside and some pretty dramatic scenery. Think big skies, green vales, rugged moors, soaring viaducts and cool tunnels. The team at The Carter Company are particularly fond of the attractive waterside cycling along the Tawe estuary. We highly recommend it!
En route, you can soak up the laid-back pace of life of Devon & Cornwall as you wind your way through pretty villages with thatched cottages. The local culture is well known for its delicious cream teas and there is a thriving organic food movement in the area.
We have a short weekend tour which is great for kids as it is almost entirely traffic-free, as well as three longer 6-8 night trips which wind their way from north to south and around the coast: one is a gentle option (20 miles/day) whilst the other two are not-so-gentle (30 miles/day). The tours are self-guided but a guide can be arranged if you prefer. For most of our tours there is a choice of luxury or classic quality accommodation.
Tours in Devon start from Barnstaple and travel to Ilfracombe in the north or Plymouth on the south coast, taking in lovely towns like Tavistock along the way. Our Cornish cycling holiday starts in St Ives and takes in Land's End, the Lizard peninsula, the Eden Project and Padstow. Check out the individual tour itineraries for more information.
