A walking holiday in the Lake District is truly special. This unique region in the United Kingdom holds a special place in the hearts of British people, and is celebrated the world over as a fantastic holiday destination for walkers and hikers. It boasts a landscape like no other... verdantly green, disarmingly wild and unspoilt and teeming with wildlife, it features jaw-dropping peaks and mesmerically vast stretches of water. Sprinkled with utterly charming little villages and towns which offer a slice of 'real England', and blessed with some of the most luxurious boutique hotels and the finest restaurants in the country, we really can't recommend the Lake District enough.
Here at The Carter Company, we offer three individual walking tours in the Lake District. Our Coast to coast trip, inspired by Wainwright, has 5 days of challenging walking in the area before heading on through Yorkshire whilst the historic walk along Hadrian's Wall is also demanding in places and covers the area adjacent to the Lake District which is less bury and has fewer tourists. For a more gentle walk, consider 'In the footsteps of famous writers' which includes two days covering the sights loved by Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth.
Bespoke itineraries, tailor-made to you
Along side these tours, we offer tailor-made guided and self-guided walking holidays. Whilst we have sample itineraries, we like to tailor-make each walking holiday to your personal needs, interests and preferences. Due to the sheer volume and choice of routes in the region, we think you'll get the best out of your trip if you tell us a little bit about you and your group, so we can pick out the walks that would suit you best. For example, are you a couple of adults with hiking experience, or a family with a range of energy levels and physical fitness? Do you want to see the popular highlights or the hidden gems where no-one else goes? Do you want to scale Scafell Pike or potter along the low-level Coffin Trail? Are you interested in nature, or history, or literature, or geology? How many different areas do you want to stay in during your visit? All of these questions can help us design for you the perfect Lake District trip. Please contact us to discuss your requirements - we look forward to hearing from you!
Guided and self-guided walking in the Lake District with The Carter Company
The area is blessed with an enormous number of walking routes, from low-level gentle strolls to high-level challenging ascents, and everything in between. Because of this, we recommend choosing a guide for high-level walks, whilst taking on the low-level walks self-guided (we provide maps and route directions). However, if you prefer to take all your walks self-guided and are competent in reading English OS Maps, we are happy to provide you simply with route directions and send you on your way. Similarly, if you prefer a guide for every day, we are more than happy to provide one. We work with only the most experienced, qualified and knowledgeable guides from the area, who not only know the landscape inside out, but who are also full of interesting bits of information about the history, geography and nature of this unique area.
